Ran cross country and track all throughout high school. Met a lot of great people and enjoyed the races, travel time, and the overall process for all four years. I made varsity several times throughout high school, but had to work quite a bit for it as well. Overall, had a great experience with it though!

Personal:

Born again Christian. I have been a type 1 diabetic since 2015 and celiac since 2018, and even though I have had my struggles with it, I still strive to live a healthy life. Senior at Utah State University studying Health Science. Hoping to go into pharmaceuticals and focus on diabetic supplies and medicine, because I am quite passionate about helping those that have the same medical condition as I do.

AM- Fire Cracker 5k this morning. I decided to wear my flag shorts for the race for Independence Day. I didn't know what kind of shape I am in, but I just wanted to feel out the race. Splits were 5:56, 5:51, 5:52. The effort felt somewhat like a tempo, but I am not sure how much faster the legs wanted to go today. Overall it was great to be in an actual race again in quite a while. Happy 4th everyone!

AM- 4 mile commute run with Ty and Andrew. Indian "fartlek" on the last mile.

PM- 12.6 mile bike ride then took a couple of hours rest. 6 miles later in the afternoon. 95 degree weather made it harder than it should have been.

AM- Probably the most difficult race I have ever done. The concept is the same as last years Death Race, where you run a 4.1 mile loop at McCoy Flats, every hour on the hour, until there is just one person left. Last year, I made it 10 rounds, so I felt like I needed to make it at least 10 rounds of the race this year. I knew that I would feel a lot better this year, compared to last year, because of my gluten-free diet and my blood sugar levels doing much better over the past few months. The first 5 laps went by really quick, but the heat really started to rise as the afternoon came closer. By noon it was 90 degrees, and then by 3-4 pm, it was probably 100 degrees or very close. I pretty much had a mental break down on the 12th and final lap. I was very dehydrated and wasn't taking fluids down very well. It came down to three of us on the final lap, and I came in second on it and we basically called it there, because we all had pretty severe heat exhaustion. Overall, I am very happy that I placed and got a pretty cool rock with a design on it. Definitely the longest that I have ever ran in my life! Congrats to everyone else that ran today as well!

PM- 20.23 mile ride on Zwift. Definitely having some post-race blues after the Death Race. Sometimes, you just never want those days to end.

AM- 5 in Naples. Been slacking on the blog a bit lately. I haven't been running as much as I should be, because I am running the Mountain Madness 50 miler next weekend. This will be my first non-stop ultra, since the McCoy Flats Death Race is a stop-go-stop-go kind of race. Should be fun, but I am not sure what kind of time I will be able to run. Maybe around 7 hours?
