Ran cross country and track all throughout high school. Met a lot of great people and enjoyed the races, travel time, and the overall process for all four years. I made varsity several times throughout high school, but had to work quite a bit for it as well. Overall, had a great experience with it though!

Personal:

Born again Christian. I have been a type 1 diabetic since 2015 and celiac since 2018, and even though I have had my struggles with it, I still strive to live a healthy life. Senior at Utah State University studying Health Science. Hoping to go into pharmaceuticals and focus on diabetic supplies and medicine, because I am quite passionate about helping those that have the same medical condition as I do.

AM- Been kind of slacking on the blog lately. 5 miles this morning. Cloudy day outside.

PM- Tonight I did possibly the hardest crossfit workout I have done for a while. It was practically similar to one that I have done in the past but more volume. The workout was: 4 rounds of 50-40-30-20-10 reps of double under jump ropes, with 10 burpees in between each. My shoulders were totally fried by the end of this and I was breathing really hard from the burpees. Had a lot of lactic acid during most of it as well. Overall a really good workout to improve Vo2 max and endurance strength.

AM- 9 miles with Ty over by the Rec Center. Cold morning, so we started out doing some of it inside on the track and then finished outside. Only 9 degrees this morning. Last couple of miles felt pretty easy at 6:40 pace.

AM- 45 minutes on the assault bike. Legs felt pretty good.

PM- 13 mile medium long run with Ty. 7:32 average pace. It was a really good run. Kept everything easy until the last mile, which was a 5:40. Not super cold for an evening in December.

AM- 4.5 easy after BIO final. I feel like I did pretty, and it was easier than most of mid-term tests all semester haha!

PM- 2 mile warmup, then did a 3 mile tempo in 17:52. Haven't really done a lot of workouts lately, so it felt good to go fast. Didn't feel to hard of a tempo. 2 mile cooldown and some stretcing afterward. Been getting in some solid mileage this week!

PM- Good run today. Met up with Ty at the rec center for 5x 1 mile up tempo repeats. Since the track at the rec center is 15 laps for a mile, there are turns every 5-10 seconds, so it is difficult to go super fast on it. Used the first one as a warmup in 6:33, and then worked the pace down somewhat. Rest of the splits were: 6:23, 6:14, 6:08, 6:01. Not hard repeats, but good to get the legs moving during this cold weather. Took about a 2 minute rest between each. Afterward Ty wanted to see how fast he could run an 800m. We both ran 2:17, so fairly quick. Although I haven't ran many 800m races, I believe this is a PR for me. This is encouraging for me to see somewhat progress in my short speed.

AM- 7 miles easy through Maesar and down Maine. 7:12 average pace. Wore too big of a hoody, and actually got quite warm outside. The legs had some good spring in them today, which felt good.

PM- Went to the rec center and did a 2 mile jog on the track. Then met up with some guys to play some basketball 21. We played several games, so I was pretty tired after today.

AM- Mile warmup, then did 10x800m w/ 1:00 rest. Splits were: 3:02, 2:54, 2:56, 2:51, 2:48, 2:52, 2:49, 2:47, 2:44, 2:47. Legs were pretty tired and tight, even though these paces are nothing super fast. Still happy to get in some good leg turnover though. 2 mile cooldown afterward.

PM- Went on a nice walk with the dog. Well 2017 is all over, and it has been a great year full of achievements. From completely two marathons and qualifying for Boston on one of them, and getting a great PR in the half marathon, I am greatful for the health that I have had to be able to accomplish my goals. Even though there have also been some difficulties, I wait to see what I can accomplish in 2018!!
