Ran cross country and track all throughout high school. Met a lot of great people and enjoyed the races, travel time, and the overall process for all four years. I made varsity several times throughout high school, but had to work quite a bit for it as well. Overall, had a great experience with it though!

Born again Christian. I have been a type 1 diabetic since 2015 and celiac since 2018, and even though I have had my struggles with it, I still strive to live a healthy life. Senior at Utah State University studying Health Science. Hoping to go into pharmaceuticals and focus on diabetic supplies and medicine, because I am quite passionate about helping those that have the same medical condition as I do.

AM- 10.66 easy on the canal trail this morning. 10 quick strides afterward. First double digit run in a little over a month, and it felt really good this morning. I am glad that I am finally getting control of my diabetes again! Also I have gained a good 6 lbs back, which is also a plus, because I feel much stronger running again.

AM- 10k shakeout. 7:55 average. Running Murray Days 5k tomorrow. Don't really know how well it will go, but I will do what I can and have a great time lol! I know that I am only going to make progress from here on for training for Chicago in October!

AM- Ended up jogging the Murray Days 5k this morning. Ran right around 7:35 pace for the whole thing, and even though it was my slowest time ever running this race lol, I was happy with my effort today, because it is the first time 7:30's felt easy for me since all the health issues lately. Also I have gained back about 10 lbs from only weighing 112 lbs two weeks ago, so that is definitely promising. I am hoping that I can only progress from here on out, and not have these issues again with my T1D. Ended up doing a 4.4 mile cooldown afterward, then watched the parade.

AM- Easy 10k in on Provo's Maine St. this morning. 7:59 average. Stayed up pretty late last night after going to the Stadium of Fire for the Keith Urban concert and fireworks, so I was surprised that I actually got a run in before 9 am haha!

AM- 10.5 easy on the canal. 7:54 average. 10 strides afterward. Today was somewhat frustrated on my run, because before I started this morning, my blood sugar level was at 204, so I dosed one unit of insulin to help bring it down a little bit. When I get done with my run, it is at 395. Sometimes diabetes can be a real pain lol!

PM- 3 mile shakeout on the TM. Weights and core afterward.

AM- 10.5 easy miles from Aggie, down Maine St. and then back to Aggie. 7:46 average. Also did some dynamics and 10 short strides afterward. When I was driving up to start my run, I past the park and saw several of the cross country kids running down the road back to the park. Sometimes I really miss those early morning practices of cross country.

PM- Ended up getting my run in late tonight, because I had to help my dad build a fence to keep the deer out from our garden and raspberry patch. Was outside basically all day. I had a tempo planned today though, and I wanted to get it in even though I was tired. It turned into a 5k marathon pace effort on the treadmill. Still glad I got it done. Now time for bed lol!

AM- Forgot to charge the watch last night. Five miles easy on the back roads towards Naples. I signed up for the McCoy Flats Death Race that is taking place on Saturday. I also might do the Vernal Rescue Run 5k tomorrow night, but I haven't quite decided if I want to do both of them.

AM- Well, I didn't think that I was going to accomplish what I did today at all. I signed up for the McCoy Flats Death Race about three months ago. This was before I became really sick with my type 1 diabetes, and ended up losing about 15 lbs of muscle. This race was really interesting, because it started at 6 am, everyone has to run four miles in one hour, and start again every hour, on the hour. So if you finished in 40 minutes, you have 20 minutes of rest before you start your next four miles. The winner of the race is the last man standing! My plan was to stay right around 9:00-10:00 minute/miles, which I actually was able to stay quite consistent with. Started out with about 80-90 participants, and it slowly dwindled down to about 7 of us by 1 pm. Temps were right around 100 degrees, and it was very hard to stay cool out there today. From early in the morning, I really tried my best to stay hydrated and eat enough to fuel me, but not too much to where I would start having extreme side aches throughout the race, since I only had roughly 20-25 minutes left after each round. By 2 pm, I had ran definitely ran the farthest ever in my life, and there were only four of us left in the race. I felt strong until I hit our 9th round, which was 36 miles. At this point, I just wanted to be done, but I did my best to stay mentally tough and discipline myself to stay in the fight. Once we were on our 10th round of the 4 mile trail route, I could tell that Jason Holt, who came out for the race from South Ogden was hurting pretty bad, because he basically started cramping and walking from the start of the 10th round. It was just Casey McKee, me, and a younger lady from Heber, Utah. Jason ended up dropping out on this 10th round, which meant that I would for sure get top three. Once I got to about mile 3 of this 10th round, I basically hit the biggest wall of my life. Combining with the heat, dehydration, muscle cramping, I knew that I was going to be done after this 10th round. Since Casey finished this 10th round before me, and I that I came in before the lady from Heber, we just decided to end it there, with Casey taking first, me taking second place, and the lady taking third. Once I finished my 10th round, I headed straight for the ice water trough that they had for us there. (Really thankful they had this for us!). Anyways, really glad that I did this race, even though I will need some extreme recovery and food/water intake for the next couple of days. I am also really happy with my results of reaching the farthest I have ever ran today with 42 miles. (this is because the course was about 4.2 miles every round, so a little farther than the standard of 4 miles, like they said.) Ultra marathons are definitely a beast in themselves, and a lot different than any type of race that I have done!

AM- Just a 3 mile walk this morning. Still recovering from the Death Race on Saturday. Legs are a bit sore, but they mostly just feel heavy. It is amazing how dehydrated I was after that race, because I am still thirsty a lot of the time haha! Going to take it easy this week, and recover as best as I can.

AM- Mile of easy jogging, then did about 10-13x 1 minute pickups. The pickups ranged anywhere from 5:45-6:15 pace, which felt really good today, since I haven't gone sub-6 minute pace since I was having major issues with my T1D. The 1 minute pickups felt really relaxed too, which is exciting! I would say that my anemia and low iron deficiency is practically gone, because my breathing and energy levels are doing great right now! Those b12 vitamins and omega 3's are doing wonders for me!

AM- 6.2 easy on Diamond Mt. Road. Pretty good little climb right before the turn around to come back. Haven't really ran on very many hills lately, so the legs were slightly burning on the climb. Finished up with 2.1 miles easy on the treadmill, then 10 strides afterwards. Good run!

PM- Wasn't planning on doubling today, but ended up doing an easy 4 miles shakeout with Ty at the rec center. Felt pretty good! Ty did an extra mile in 5:49, so kudos to him for doing that lol!

AM- 10.5 easy with Ty. Starting at Vernal Park, then out past Naples 7-11, then back. 7:54 average. 10 strides afterward. While we were doing our strides, the cross country team was pulling in to get ready to go to there annual camp. I remember those good ole' days of XC camp, especially Death Hill lol!

PM- Much needed 4 mile shakeout after about a four hour anatomy study session. 8:02 average. Weights and core afterward. Saw Reagan running there too, so S/O to her!

AM- 5 on the TM. 7:30 average. Going to push my tempo run for the week to Thursday. So this weekend is going to be exciting, because I am going to Boulder, Colorado for a 3 day running camp. The guy that will be coaching us is Luis Orta, who has personal bests of 13:49 for 5k, 28:32 for 10k, and 2:16:30 for the marathon. We will probably be doing some type of fartlek workout on Saturday, a long run on Sunday, and several other easy runs and core workouts, so I don't want to overdue the system with two workouts prior to leaving for Boulder on Friday. Getting pretty excited for this camp!
